This Tomato is a shape we have seen from him before in several variations, this Nosewarmer being on the short end of the spectrum, but also taller, with a high waistline that calls to mind an Acorn bowl. Ridgelines grow organically from the base of the bowl, running down the flanks of the shank in a manner simultaneously crisp and smooth.
The shank face is crowned with lacewood, the lighter material providing a nice contrast between the darker hues of stummel and stem, with the interior smoothly chamfered and boasting a thin gold-colored inlay. The stummel is dressed in a ruby stain and medium-depth sandblast, providing a welcome stimulation in hand and bringing out tight stacks of growth rings climbing the bowl. A compact piece, this pipe yet puts Florov's skill and design acumen on full display and deserves serious attention from any discerning collector.
