Smooth Bent Dublin
This particular piece showcases Lars Jonsson's penchant for Danish-inspired pipes — evident in the orientation of plateau at both the rim and shank face, as well as the the elongation and slight flare of the shank. Lars has done well to seamlessly curl the underside of the shank through the heel and into the bowl, cohering the entire composition together.
The grain is absolutely stunning as well, highlighted beneath a fiery contrast stain, but what captures my attention most is the junction of stem and shank — Lars has inset the base of the saddle stem almost flush with the shank face and has, even, angled the base to align with the slanted orientation of the natural plateau. A subtle touch, yet extremely effective at incorporating the stem into the overall design.
