Universal Geneve

Vintage 1940s Military

This is a Vintage Universal Geneve manual wind watch. An example of the type of utilitarian watch that was worn in the 40s, this has a wonderful dial with patina that has aged so gracefully. We found it with a case that was in rough shape which we restored to keep the attention on the dial and matched it with a new-old stock vintage military strap to complete the look. Perfect to wear with a military jacket, or for just about every casual everyday look. Originally, this was a men's watch, but we think the size is also well suited for a stylish woman who prefers a medium sized watch.

Movement: High grade calibre 262 Swiss Universal Geneve movement is a manual wind movement. It has been newly serviced by a master watchmaker. It runs and keeps time in good order.

Dial condition and detail: Original dial as found has a wonderful mottled patina. The luminous on the numbers no longer glows. Original hands re-lumed to match the numbers on the dial to keep the look consistent and the focus on the dial.

Case condition and detail: Good Universal Geneve Case is restored with sensitivity to its original details. Originally, this had solid lugs which had been replaced with spring bars. We left this as found, but re-plated the case. Marked on inside caseback: nickel chrome; fond acier; Universal U.W.; Swiss. Marked on outside case back: 951811; 31225.
