Vintage Monkey japanese lucky charm

The monkey was carved by Yushoku Kasuga who is a 5th generation artist in the highly regarded Torin family line of ittobori carvers in Nara.

The wooden figure is in great vintage condition and comes in it’s own storage box. On the front, in large kanji ,“saru” (monkey) and in smaller characters “ittobori” have been written. “Godaime Torin” (5th generation of Torin) and Kasuga Yushoku (artist’s name) appear on the inside of the lid.

This little monkey is one of the twelve animals of the Japanese zodiac. It was carved for display and good luck in the Year of the Monkey.

- weighs 280 gm.
