Vintage Monkey japanese lucky charm

This cute little wooden monkey was carved in Ittobori style around the 1970s. It was made as a good luck charm to celebrate the Year of the Monkey, by Ogami Shrine. It is carved from natural camphor wood. It is unadorned except for the traditional red painted circles around it’s eyes.

The wooden figure has been roughly carved with a chisel and is in great vintage condition with some darkening from age. It comes in it’s own storage box. On the front, ‘Ogami Jinja’,(Ogami shrine) ‘Saru Doshi’, (Year of the Monkey), and ‘Omamori’, (lucky charm), have been written.
