Vintage japanese lacquer serving tray

$200 SGD

The trays are Sanuki lacquerware from Kagawa prefecture in Shikoku. They are coated in a warm, brown, translucent lacquer which really brings out the beautiful natural grain of the wood.

The tray was made for use and display around the time of the Hina Matsuri. It is decorated with a large carving of a hanaguruma. The cart, full of seasonal flowers, is a very popular image at the Doll’s Festival. The artist’s signature has been carved in the bottom corner.
