Hand Painted Kalamkari Silk
This is a chanderi silk fabric featuring the intricate Srikalahasti style of Kalamkari pen work. The fabric is known for its gossamer looks and amazing feel, and is entirely hand-drawn and painted using natural colors. The Srikalahasti style of Kalamkari involves using a pen for freehand drawing of the subject and filling in the colors.
This technique has been practiced for approximately 200 years in Srikalahasti, and the artists here retain the ancient techniques of dyeing, passed down from generations. As it is hand-painted, variations in color and design may occur, adding to the unique beauty of the piece. Colour spread and irregularity in design is common, hence it is not considered as damaged or defective.
