Dunhill

Cumberland (4103) (2015)

$1,150 SGD

The "windshield" rim design is most often seen on Dunhill's "12" Stack shape, so named because the fore is raised for the purpose of thwarting the wind that threatens the bowl's ember. The style hearkens back to a design Alfred himself marketed for vehicle drivers, and it's seen here smoothly stained a natural hue atop a classic (and hearty) straight "03" Billiard, instead. This Group 4 boasts plenty of chamber capacity in its rather stout bowl and is a fine Sitter, thanks to a flattened underside. It's seen here dressed in the crisp, warm and pastoral sandblast of the Cumberland line.

When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe-smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."
