This evocative original sanguine (red chalk) drawing by the renowned Polish-born Jewish-American painter Jacques Zucker (1900–1981) captures a soulful, pensive study of a young woman. A prominent figure of the School of Paris and an international post-impressionist master, Zucker was celebrated for his ability to translate deep psychological presence through expressive, confident line work.

This specific piece is rendered in a warm terracotta palette, using the classic sanguine medium to create soft, lifelike textures and a serene, contemplative mood. It represents the pinnacle of 20th-century academic drawing, blending modern expression with the timeless elegance of 18th-century French masters like Greuze.

The artwork features significant provenance, including a vintage label from the prestigious Galerie L’Art français in Montreal (Inventory #4628). It is professionally housed in a minimalist white frame with a neutral mat, allowing the rich tones of the chalk to remain the focal point.

Both the sanguine drawing and the neutral mat are in very good vintage condition, well-preserved behind glass with no visible foxing or staining. The original white wooden gallery frame shows visible vintage wear, including slight scuffs and paint loss along the edges and corners.

Painting Size: 13" x 8 3/4", 21” x 16” (including frame)
