This is a wonderful African Mask from the Dogon People of Mali. The Dogon carve over eighty kinds of mask some of which, especially the Satimbe, Katanga and Sirige, are considered to have potent magical powers. Others, representing hunters or animals, are used in dances of a more celebratory or social nature. Dogon masks, and for the most part all utilize the use of various geometric shapes in their design, independent of the various animals they are supposed to represent. This would e fabulous addition to your collection or home.

Shows age and Natural Wear. Has Some Cracks.
